The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Double Balance Wheel Openworked in 18 ct yellow gold is a masterclass in watchmaking, and its satin-brushed surfaces and mirror-polished bevels are notorious for picking up marks. Our client had already paid to have minor scratches officially polished out.
Rather than keep paying for polishing that removes gold each time, they came to Wrist Guard LDN for invisible, lasting protection.
The challenge
What made this watch demanding.
Preserving the finish
The film has to keep the crisp contrast between the brushed surfaces and the mirror-polished bevels of the octagonal bezel and integrated links.
The exposed bezel
The prominent bezel takes most of the daily knocks, so an exact edge-to-edge fit is vital.
Preserving the gold
Every polish removes a thin layer of gold. The film needed to take everyday scuffs instead, so the watch never needs refinishing again.
The solution
How we protected it.
We hand-mapped an optically clear film layout across the entire case, bezel and integrated bracelet.
Aftercare is part of every fitting. Shortly afterwards, a corner of the film on the highly exposed bezel lifted through friction. The client brought the watch straight back to the studio, and we replaced the bezel film free of charge the same day.
Surfaces covered
- The case and octagonal bezel
- The integrated bracelet, brushed and polished surfaces
The results
Worn daily. Kept pristine.
The Royal Oak went back looking immaculate, with the film taking the everyday friction. Its self-healing surface lets light micro-scratches fade with gentle warmth, so the gold underneath stays untouched.
Client feedback
“I used to be so anxious wearing my yellow gold skeleton AP out because it had already picked up a few slight scratches that I had to pay a premium to officially get polished out. I knew I couldn’t keep doing that without ruining the sharp lines of the watch.
Bringing it to WristGuard London was the best decision I’ve made. The watches look immaculate and I can finally wear it more often without constantly worrying about damaging the metal or paying for future polishes. What impressed me even more was their incredible aftercare. When a tiny piece of the film came off the bezel a little while later, they stepped up immediately and replaced it for free the exact same day. The customer service matches the quality of the product - absolutely top-tier.”
